Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a physiotherapy tool, which allows the Hydrotherapist to swim with animals, using this activity as a form of exercising animals without placing impact, or any form of jarring, on the joints and muscles of the body. Hydrotherapy provides animals with a pain-free route to exercise, allowing improved muscle tone and affording flexibility to joints, whilst also providing the benefits of fitness, on both a physical and a cardiovascular level.
Additionally, working in water allows far more benefits to be gained by an animal per hydrotherapy session, when compared with exercising on the ground. These additional benefits include increased weight loss, strengthening of the heart muscle, and allowing animals inflicted with arthritic conditions to remain more mobile and retain a healthy circulatory/lymphatic systems. For animals in a post-surgical physical state, hydrotherapy is a very important tool in assisting these animals in getting back on their feet without placing any pressure on the anatomical areas that have undergone surgery and repair.
Hydrotherapy can be undertaken simply for fun, making it a safe and healthy playground for those dogs that enjoy playing in water and retrieving toys. For those slightly nervous animals who do not particularly like water, hydrotherapy can be undertaken as a gentle static swim in the shallow areas of the pool with the support and comfort of the hydrotherapist near an animal’s side. This allows those more nervous animals the benefits of hydrotherapy, also letting them achieve a high level of fitness and body strength beneficial for any arthritic problems. Additionally, attaining a higher level of fitness can place animals in a strong physical position should they develop a degenerative condition, or perhaps require any form of surgery, in the future.
